Strengthening Marriages Through Storytelling – A Testimonial Video for LifeFamily Church
One of my recent projects was with LifeFamily Church, creating a testimonial video for their marriage small group called Re|Engage. The purpose of the video was simple but powerful: encourage couples to invest in their marriages by joining the group. To tell this story, I interviewed three couples who had each experienced transformation through Re|Engage.
The Approach
I wanted the interviews to feel consistent and professional, so I used the same set for each couple. The challenge of lighting two people on camera at the same time pushed me to get creative. I went with a newsroom-inspired setup: two key lights at 45-degree angles for each person, a few background lights for separation, and a snoot with a slash design to add visual interest. To make the colors feel natural yet cinematic, I played with mixed color temperatures—5600k for the keys, 4800k for the background wash, and 3600k for the snoot accent.
The shoot itself was a two-camera setup, which gave me flexibility in editing and made the final piece more dynamic. Each interview ran 30–45 minutes, so one of the hardest parts was cutting them down into a tight, 2.5-minute story that still captured the heart of each couple’s journey.
The Impact
The final video was shared during a Sunday morning service, right before couples were invited to sign up for Re|Engage. The church saw a noticeable boost in registrations, and I like to think this video had something to do with that. Hearing these stories firsthand was inspiring, and it reminded me how powerful honest storytelling can be when paired with the right visuals.
What I Learned
This project taught me a lot about interviewing. I went in with a script and talking points, but I quickly realized that the best answers come when the conversation feels natural. When people are comfortable, they share more authentically—and that’s what makes the final video connect with viewers.
This project was a great reminder of why I love what I do: helping people share their stories in a way that moves others to take action.
